Liposculpture - Body, Torso

There you are, exercising regularly, eating right and still you have areas that simply resist slimming. Fatty deposits in your hips, thighs, buttocks, lower abdomen, back, arms or the chest, can make an otherwise toned and conditioned body look out of shape. Often these deposits can be traced back to inherited traits rather than poor diet or fitness. Still, knowing that its nothing you’ve done doesn’t help much when you look into the mirror and see a small area of stubborn fat tarnishing your figure. Yet, there is something you can do.

Though exercise and diet are not the answer to these fatty deposits, Dr. Edward Terino, Medical Director of the Southern California Institute of Plastic Surgery and a board certified plastic surgeon, can contour your body through the use of liposuction, ridding you of these disproportioning pockets of fat.

Body contouring is a general set of procedures used by certified plastic surgeons, like Dr. Terino, to bring proportion and symmetry to your body. Almost any area where there is a fatty deposit that is resistant to diet and exercise is amenable to body contouring procedures. For best results, you should be relatively normal in weight and have unwanted and typically hereditary fat deposits localized in specific areas such as the hips, outer thighs, inner thighs, knees and abdomen.

Candidates for body contouring procedures should possess healthy, elastic skin that has the capacity to shrink evenly after surgery. This elastic capacity can be present even in patients into their 50s and 60s. A consultation with Dr. Terino, Medical Director of the Southern California Institute of Plastic Surgery, can determine whether or which body contouring procedure is right for you.

Perhaps the most common of the body contouring procedures is Lipoplasty, more popularly known as Liposuction. Lipoplasty removes the deposits of fat through tiny invisible incisions discretely placed in or near the trouble area. A long, thin, hollow tube called a cannula with openings at one end is then inserted through the small incisions. The tube is connected to a vacuum pressure suction machine and the unwanted fat is removed after it is loosened up by a tumescent liquid (a combination of saline, Lidocaine, and a vasoconstrictor) and the back and forth motions of the surgeon using the cannula.
